Background

Military School of Information and Communication Technology (MSICT)

The MSICT, fully owned by the Tanzania People's Defense Force (TPDF) (Swahili: Jeshi la Ulinzi la Wananchi wa Tanzania (JWTZ)), was established in 2018. Initially, it operated at the 603 Air Wing and officially relocated to a new facility in Upanga on March 15, 2020. The primary objective of MSICT is to provide computer training to TPDF officers and personnel of various ranks. It develops customized computer training programs tailored to their specific daily assignments.
There are several reasons that motivate MSICT to develop curricula based on the guidelines set by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET):
a) MSICT aims to enhance the quality of the courses it offers and raise the standards.
b) The introduction of new curricula provides an opportunity to modify or upgrade the existing levels to align with the changes.
c) MSICT is enthusiastic about expanding its course offerings to the general public, not limited to TPDF staff.
d) Students who have completed courses at MSICT express a desire for additional IT-related skills and knowledge.
e) There is a high demand for networking knowledge and communication skills within the TPDF.
f) With the implementation of the new curricula, MSICT plans to admit students from other forces such as the Police, Prisons, JKT (National Service), security organizations, military family members, and the general public.
By following the guidelines provided by NACTE, MSICT has developed a comprehensive program leading to the award of a Certificate (NTA levels 4, 5, and 6) in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
